It started with a mood board!

Whenever I start a project, a mood board is key. I really like to dial in to the heart of the brand I’m working with. This exercise allows me to breath before I dig my heels into a project. I was delighted to work with Kingfisher’s established bold, moody, refined, yet relaxed branding. I wanted to make sure the visuals and layout I was working with aligned with these themes.

When designing the website for Kingfisher Seafood, I placed a strong emphasis on creating a seamless and engaging mobile experience. Knowing that most users access restaurant information on their phones—whether they’re checking menus, making reservations, or looking up directions—I prioritized optimizing the site for mobile devices.

From the outset, I focused on designing a responsive layout that would adapt to smaller screens. I simplified navigation, ensuring the menu and key features were easy to find and interact with, even with just a thumb. Clear call-to-action buttons, mobile-friendly font sizes, and touch-responsive elements were all integrated to make the experience smooth and intuitive.

Wireframing was an essential first step in bringing the vision to life. I started by mapping out the structure and flow of the site, focusing on the user journey and ensuring the layout would feel intuitive and purposeful. Wireframing allowed me to visualize the content hierarchy, placing key elements like the menu, location, and reservation options where users could easily access them.

For Kingfisher, the wireframes served as a blueprint for creating a balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal. I carefully planned for large, vibrant imagery to highlight the restaurant's seafood offerings while leaving room for clean, readable text.
